Recreation Planning with a Stewardship Mindset

It's been a busy few weeks, filled with stimulating conversations and systems thinking. From May 1-3, I was in Naramata at the BC Mountain Bike Symposium, hosted by the Mountain Bike Tourism Association (MBTA). I participated in a panel discussion titled "Recreation Planning with a Stewardship Mindset." It was wonderful to address a room of people committed to creating positive change in the mountain biking industry.

As our population grows and recreation becomes increasingly popular, planning is critical. Effective recreation planning ensures that we respect Indigenous values and interests, consider the ecosystem sustainably, and create inclusive spaces for everyone, regardless of age, race, gender, or ability. The conference inspired many new ideas on how I can contribute to the movement that connects people to the land through mountain biking. I'm looking forward to the next one!
