A new approach to ethical and sustainable planning.

Re-thinking planning.

Decisions are best made when all parties are brought to the table and equitably valued. Moe Nadeau Consulting helps governments, organizations, and communities with equity and sustainability planning initiatives using Ethical Space and community-led practices. At the forefront of our work is a commitment to reconciliation, respect, and relational accountability. We steer away from traditional, top-down planning approaches, and instead empower community-based decision-making to foster greater equity. Our practice strengthens collective power for systems change. We are committed to developing dynamic and innovative approaches to achieve holistic results.

A new approach.

Our 4 Pillars

Community-Led

Communities are at the forefront of all the work we do. We help clients connect with communities to facilitate deep relationship-building. We support active collaboration of diverse peoples and organizations. Communities that may be disproportionately impacted by past planning processes remain central. Through our work, all voices are heard.

Ethical Space

Ethical Space is a conceptual approach used to balance power between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. Ethical Space was first formally coined by Willie Ermine, a member of the Sturgeon Lake First Nation. Ermine calls Ethical Space, a space “formed when two societies with disparate worldviews, are poised to engage each other”. We incorporate Ethical Space-based approaches of 1) pre-engagement, 2) relational accountability, and 3) reflexivity in our work.

Systems Thinking

Systems thinking tackles complex challenges. We utilize a holistic approach to analysis that recognizes the intersectional and interrelated parts of systems. We confront the root cause of issues to transform structures, power dynamics, and mindsets. Our work strengthens collective power to enable systems change.

Place-Based

Good planning can only happen if it is grounded in place. A place-based approach recognizes the issues, relationships, and interconnections in a specific location and takes personalized measures to act in the best interest of the community. We are deep believers in connecting to place to achieve localized results.
