Welcome to Moe Nadeau Consulting
It is officially time to launch my business, Moe Nadeau Consulting. This is an exciting, but nerve-wracking part of being a business owner. I have many mixed feelings as I write this post. Ultimately, I know that I am committed to this work and creating space for more equitable conversations.
Why did I decide to open my own practice? For too long planning has perpetuated a harmful, colonial narrative that allows people with the loudest voice to be the most valued in how we plan for the future. In previous roles, I found it challenging to create space to change this narrative. It seemed the only way to help shift the conversation, was to remove myself entirely and develop something I could feel passionate about.
I believe decisions are best made when all parties are brought to the table and equitably valued. My business, Moe Nadeau Consulting, helps governments, organizations, and communities with equity and conservation planning initiatives using Ethical Space and community-led practices.
As an Ethical Space practitioner, I am committed to holistic, systems thinking and respectful engagement. Ethical Space is a conceptual approach used to balance power between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. The term was first formally coined by Willie Ermine, a member of the Sturgeon Lake First Nation. Ermine calls Ethical Space, a space “formed when two societies with disparate worldviews, are poised to engage each other”. To me, Ethical Space is valuable in all aspects of equity and sustainability planning. It facilitates continuous dialogue between diverse people to foster lasting, respectful relationships and develop new decision-making processes.
Communities are at the forefront of all the work I do. I help clients connect with communities to facilitate deep relationship-building. Through my work, all voices are heard and valued. In adopting my holistic approach to planning, I confront the root cause of issues to transform structures, power dynamics, and mindsets. My practice strengthens collective power for systems change.
If you are interested in fostering new relationships centered on trust, respect, and relational accountability, Moe Nadeau Consulting can help you bring these ideas to life. I offer unique approaches to facilitation, engagement, and report writing.
